W.F. Howes Ltd, the UK’s leading audiobook, digital services, and large-print publisher, has acquired exclusive, worldwide English language unabridged audio rights to Anneka Harry’s debut book, Gender Rebels: 50 Influential Cross-Dressers, Impersonators, Name-Changers, and Game-Changers. The audiobook will release on 1 November 2019 to coincide with the eBook and paperback editions.

Gender Rebels tells the story of 50 women who fought back against the patriarchy to carve their own paths. Spanning 2,500 years, Harry’s work shines a light on the little-known visionaries in history who have influenced, inspired, and changed the world.  From Joan of Arc to marauding eighteenth-century pirates Mary Read and Anne Bonny, to the inspirational soccer-loving Zahra Khoshnavaz in Iran, who risks everything to take her place in the stands.

A call to action for the modern world, this book celebrates the Gender Rebels who paved the way for women everywhere to be soldiers and spies; kings and queens; firefighters, doctors, pilots. These superbly spirited (wo)men all had one thing in common: they defied the rules to progress in a man’s world.

A writer, comedy actor, presenter, and producer, Harry’s work has been featured on BBC, Channel 4, ITV, BBC Radio 4, and in Stylist and Grazia. She is a dedicated feminist and LGBTQ rights advocate.

Harry says: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be working with W.F. Howes on Gender Rebels. This is a dream-team audio collaboration for me, and I can’t wait to bring it to your lugholes!”

Acquiring Editor from W.F. Howes, Laura Smith, says: “Anneka Harry is a one-woman powerhouse who will make you cry with laughter whilst galvanising you into action. Gender Rebels is shaping up to be a very special audiobook.”
